Camp Chandler
PURPOSE
Founded in 1928, YMCA Camp Chandler has influenced the lives of thousands of boys and girls. The staff strive to put Christian principles into practice to create a fun and enjoyable experience in which children will grow in spirit, mind and body. The Camp Chandler experience offers more than just education in camping and outdoor skills. In this atmosphere, children can develop self-confidence, social skills, leadership, initiative, group responsibility, appreciation of the natural environment, spiritual awareness, independence and physical and mental growth. Camping is learning through participation.
LEADERSHIP
Camp Chandler is under the direction of Jeff Reynolds. Jeff spent many summers at Camp Chandler as a camper and counselor before becoming Camp Director 13 years ago. Jeff & Julie learned first hand the value of camping and strive to provide that same experience for your child. Leaving home for a resident camp experience is a big step for both parent and child. The staff of Camp Chandler strive to create a caring and safe environment in which your child will have a fun and challenging experience. We hope that each child will leave camp enriched from the experience.
QUALITY STAFF
A camp is only as good as its leadership. The success of a camping experience is due in large part to the relationship between a camper and his/her counselor. Therefore, great emphasis is placed on staff selection. A camp counselor has a great responsibility to every camper under their care. Camp Chandler has been blessed with a highly dedicated, enthusiastic, and caring staff. We maintain a 1 to 4 staff to camper ratio. The high percentage of returning campers each year attests to the quality of our staff.
PROGRAM
A typical day at Camp Chandler begins with the raising of the flag and a morning devotional – both instrumental in starting the day off right. Campers will have an opportunity to choose from our variety of activities for the morning and afternoon. These activities allow campers to spend more time in the areas of their individual interests.
Evenings are spent in camp-wide activities such as skit night, camper-counselor hunt, dances, carnivals, capture-the-flag, campfires and other fun programs. This large group setting results in some of the most memorable and fun camp experiences. The day then ends just as it began – with an evening devotion touching on the experiences of the day.
HEALTH CARE
Camp Chandler has a doctor on call at all times and the camp is within 5 minutes of a 24 hour emergency room. Camp Chandler has a great safety record which the staff strives to maintain and there is a well-stocked infirmary for minor scrapes or illnesses. Parents/guardians are notified immediately in the event of an accident. Required medical exams and daily inspections of cabins ensure a healthy camp environment for your child.
SPENDING MONEY
Campers should bring money for arts and crafts, soft drinks, snacks, T-shirts, and souvenirs available at the camp store each day. Money is placed in the camp store the first day of each session to prevent loss. Refunds are made the last day of the session. Refunds not picked up by parents on the closing day of the session will be contributed towards camperships.
